Ashley Bakken, 26, Fargo, ND, formerly of Lignite, died Saturday, November 24, 2007, in a Minot hospital, after sustaining injuries in a car accident.

Ashley Keith Bakken was born December 24, 1980, the son of Larry and Jyl (Hermanson) Bakken in Estevan, Saskatchewan, Canada. He was raised and educated in Lignite and graduated from Burke Central High School in 1999. He then attended Northwest Technical College in Fargo and graduated with an Associate Degree in Electrical Construction in 2001. He then attended North Dakota State University in Fargo and was working towards an Electrical Engineering Degree. He was employed by Verwest Contractors as a journeyman electrician in Fargo.

Ashley was the kind of person who as always willing to lend a hand to anyone needing help. He possessed a wealth of practical skills and knowledge. He took pride in his work and was a volunteer firefighter, an avid hunter and fisherman. Ashley enjoyed cooking his bounty for friends and family. He was devoted to his family and his large circle of amazing friends. He loved sandy beaches and skin diving, motorcycling with friends, being involved with 4th of July pyrotechnic displays and traveling to see the world. He will be missed more than words can express.

His loving family includes: mother, Jyl (Randy) Baumann, Gillette, WY; father, Larry (Joyce) Bakken, Detroit Lakes, MN; sister, Brittany Bakken, Minneapolis, MN; step-sister, Jessica Baumann, step-brothers, Chris and Tanner Baumann, and step-niece, Hailey Baumann all of Gillette, WY; maternal grandparents, Keith and Ermalee Hermanson, Lignite, ND; paternal grandmother, Darline Bakken, Detroit Lakes, MN; aunts and uncles, Lisa (Steve) Knutson, Lignite, ND, Maia Hermanson and Lori (Mark) Germain all of Orlando, FL; and Bobby (Joann) Bakken; cousins, Jade Mogren, Jamie Bisson, and Hailey Germain; and Kristen and Kyle Bakken.

Ashley was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Ingvald Bakken; aunt, Shelli Hermanson, and his great grandparents.

Memorial Service: Wednesday, November 28, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Lignite.

Visitation: Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorials are preferred to Multiple Sclerosis Association.
