Amy Mildred Bakken 1950 - 2004

Amy Mildred Bakken, 81, Minot, died Monday, September 20, 2004, at Trinity Medical Center in Minot.

Amy was born January 22, 1923, on the family farm, near Velva, ND, the daughter of Lewis and Annie (Bergman) Stenberg. She was raised on the family farm and educated in Granville, where she graduated from Granville High School in 1940.

After meeting Harris Bakken they were married on June 8, 1945, in Fairview, Montana. Early in their marriage they worked for the railroad where Amy was a cook. Harris later began working for Sorkness Construction as a lineman and Amy did their payroll. They traveled extensively in North Dakota, Minnesota and eastern Montana. They settled in Granville where they raised their five children. Following Harris' death on May 12, 1965, Amy and her three youngest children moved to Minot where she began working at St. Joseph's Hospital. She retired in 1985 after 20 years of service. Following retirement, she spent 13 years living in Velva with her brother Austin, and had many good friends. In 1998, she moved to Minot and enjoyed her independence and made many wonderful friends at Dakota Terrace. Her last few months were spent at Somerset Assisted living facility.

Over the years Amy was an avid game player. She loved playing cards, board games, bingo and puzzles. Amy was a gentle soul, wonderful mom and true friend; quick to laugh, slow to anger and loved by many.

Amy was a member of North Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Velva and was active in the ladies aid where she served as president. She was a member of the Granville PTO, and was also a member of the Granville Birthday Club through First Lutheran Church in Granville.
