Robert B. Baker, 57, Minot, died Monday, October 6, 2008 in a Mandan hospital, following a courageous struggle with diabetes.

Robert was born on February 24, 1951, the son of Bruce and Mary Ann (Braun) Baker in Bismarck, ND. He was raised and educated at various locations throughout North Dakota, graduating from Minot High School in 1969.

Following graduation, he worked for Vals Cyclery, Cloverdale Meats and in July of 1974, started a career with the Burlington Northern Railroad. He was employed as a brakeman for the railroad until ill health forced him to retire in 2003.

On April 2, 1998, Robert was united in marriage to Cheryl Busch. They made their home in Minot.

Robert was a member of the United Transportation Union. He enjoyed the outdoors; was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed camping and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Those who shared in his life: Wife Cheryl Baker, Minot; children: Quinn (Tracey) Hartwig, Minot, Jennifer (Ronald "Matt") Olonia, Burlington, ND, Jason (LeAnn) Hartwig, Williston, ND, Lisa (Steven) Westergaard, Minot, Bobbie (Fiancée Jay Colon) Baker, Brooklyn, NY, Amber (Cory) Hansen, Minot, Kent Hartwig, Kansas City, MO, Kerensa Baker, Minot; grandchildren: Regan, Remington and Reilyn Hartwig, Morgan, Jared and Peyton Olonia, Carson, Quinton, Aidon Hartwig, Tyler Westergaard, Marcuso Colon, Kymberley Hansen, Madison and Drew Baker; siblings David (Susan) Baker, Minot, Larry (Charlene) Baker, Minot, Cheryl (Craig) Evans, Daulton, GA; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, and several aunts and uncles.

Visitation: Friday October 10, 2008 from 1-6 at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Vigil Prayer Service: Friday, October 10, 2008 at 6 p.m. in the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot

Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, October 11, 2008 at 11 a.m. at St. Leos Catholic Church, Minot

Burial: A private family burial will take place
