Dora K. Baker • 1921 - 2008

Dora K. Baker, 87, Minot, formerly of Sawyer, ND, died Sunday, April 27, 2008 in a Minot hospital.

Dora (Biddy) James was born on January 17, 1921, the daughter of Harvey and Catherine (Stewart) James in Rolette County. She was raised and educated in Rolette County. While in high school, Dora worked as a librarian, earning $1.00 per month. Her goal was to read every book in the library and she did.

On September 19, 1941, Dora was united in marriage to Dwayne "Red" Baker. He died October 26, 1994, after 53 years of marriage. In 1963, she started a teaching career at the Sawyer High School, a career that lasted 35 years. Dora was in a paralyzing car accident in 1998, and after accomplishing miraculous feats, was able to move to Trinity Homes.

(special friend Char) Baker and John E.(Jerilyn) Baker, both of Minot: daughters: Patricia (Chuck) Northrop, Marysville, WA, Carol (Gary) Newman, Sharon Melland and Susan Melton, all of Sawyer, ND; daughter-in-law Dianne Baker, WI; 20 grandchildren: Numerous great-grandchildren: Brothers: Fred (Ett) James, Bismarck, ND; Sisters: Mary (Hank) Boppre, Bottineau, Irene Haas, Della Gustafson, both of St. John, ND and Helena Rudquist, Minneapolis, MN
Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Dora was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Red, son Jim, an infant son, a grandson Wade Melland, brothers Alex, Howard, Lee Roy, sisters: Ester, Grace, Jessie, Laura and Margaret.

Visitation: Friday, May 2, 2008 from noon until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Funeral Service: Saturday, May 3, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. at the Trinity Homes Chapel, Minot

Burial: Saturday at 3:30 at the Sawyer Cemetery, Sawyer, ND
