Leonard K. Bailey 1931 - 2008 Leonard was born on August 21, 1931, in Deering, ND, the son of Ernest and Mary (Hoyt) Bailey. He was raised and educated in the Deering area and he worked for a creamery for several years. On February 4, 1951, he enlisted into the United States Army and proudly served his country fighting in the battle at Pork Chop Hill, during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on February 3, 1954 and returned to North Dakota. On November 10, 1954, he was united in marriage to Doretta "Dottie" Stack in Towner, ND. Following their marriage they lived in Tioga and Williston where Leonard drove water truck in the Tioga oil fields. They moved to Minot where he worked as a truck driver for GTA for 25 years and eventually became shop foreman, a position he held until his retirement in 1993. Following retirement he drove truck for Strata Concrete and later LaFarge. He than worked a time for Capitol RV. His wife Dottie died June 26, 2001. After his wife's death he met a wonderful lady, Mary Jane Gullingsrud. They spent several wonderful years together traveling, dancing, fishing and camping. Leonard was a good dancer and he enjoyed fishing, camping and in his younger days, water skiing. He was a very talented person when it came to woodworking. He built an ultra light airplane that he didn't get to fly, but he enjoyed being a member of the Minot Air Craft Modelers, where he flew remote control airplanes. He liked to play poker and pinochle and watching the History Channel and old western movies. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and the Magic City Singles Club. Those who shared in his life, sons, Jamie (Gloria) Bailey, Glyndon, MN, Patrick (Wendy) Bailey, Minot, ND; daughters, Lonnie (Joe) Greybear, Bismarck, ND, Lisa (Tommie) Tate, Jr., Okinawa, Japan; significant other, Mary Jane Gullingsrud, Minot and her family, Margaret (Dave) Peterson, Rice, MN, Jane (Steve) Bissel, Guthrie, OK, Curt (Colleen) Rieger, Lisbon, ND, Dale Rieger, Jamestown, ND, Donna (Kasper) Ziegler, Minot, ND, Lee (Dawn) Gullingsrud, Menoken, ND; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Leone Werle of Iowa and Ellen Stigen of Willow City, ND; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Leonard was preceded in death by his wife, Doretta "Dottie" Bailey; parents; two brothers and one sister. Funeral Service: Wednesday, August 13, 2008, at 1:00 p.m., at First Lutheran Church, Minot, ND Visitation: Tuesday, August 12, 2008 from noon to 7:00 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot Burial: A private burial will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
