Ronald F. "Corky" Bahl 1914 - 2004

Ronald F. "Corky" Bahl, 89, 914 11th Ave NW, Minot, died Saturday in a Minot hospital.

He was born April 18, 1914, on the family farm in Grover Township, rural Tolley, ND, the son of John and Lula (Kohrman) Bahl. He attended school in Mohall and graduated from Mohall High School in 1932. He went on to attend NDSU in Fargo and Minot State Teachers College. He was employed by the county agent in Mohall, ND during the summers of 1933 and 1934.

On September 6, 1937, he married Eleanor Zimmerman. Ronald started working for Blaisdell Motors in Minot in 1935 and continued there until 1941. He moved with his wife and daughter, Marcia to Greeley, CO, where he worked for United Air Lines in Cheyenne, Wyoming during the war, building and testing the guns on Boeing B-17 "The Flying Fortress."

In 1943, the family moved back to Minot, where he returned to employment as Parts Manager at Blaisdell Motors, which became Main Motors, located in downtown Minot. The business was later purchased by Don Moe and moved to it's present location on south broadway. He retired from Don Moe Dodge in 1979 and worked part-time for Minot State University for four years as a groundskeeper. When he officially retired, he still tended his own yard and helped care for many of his neighbors yards and houses while they traveled to warmer climates. Even on his last day, with the help of his sons and grandkids, he worked several hours in his yard cutting down old bushes and raking. Ronald loved to tend to his roses for his wife and his little backyard forest of evergreens. The nurtured seedlings from his backyard forest continue to grow in the yards of his family in many states. He also loved birds, reading maps and traveling. He left no road untraveled.

He was a charter member of Little Flower Catholic Church, Minot and was head usher at the church for many years. He was also a member of the Holy Name Society within the church, a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and the Knights of Columbus. He was a former member of the Eagle's Aerie.
