The Rev. David Badgley 1930 - 2003

The Rev. David Badgley, 72, 1509 16th St. NW, Minot, died Friday, June 06, 2003, at his home of natural causes.

David was born on July 14, 1930 in Benton Harbor, Michigan, the son of Lawrence and Ruth Badgley.
He attended county school before entering the US Army in 1948 serving with the 59th Automatic Weapon Battalion in the Korean Conflict. He was a tank commander and participated in two invasions and seven major battles and was wounded three times. In 1952, he was discharged with the rank of Sergeant First Class after serving four years, two months and 29 days, with one year, four months and 10 days of that time served on the front lines in Korea. On January 20, 1953, he married Frances Seiber, in Benton Harbor, Michigan. They attended Salvation Army School For Officers Training in Chicago. David was ordained a Christian minister on June 20, 1955. They served appointments in Chicago, Ill, Grand Rapids and Holland, Michigan and Bismarck, ND.

He entered the Congregational Church in a three-church parish, Beach, Sentinel Butte and Medora. They moved to Minot in 1969 and served 26 years at the Congregational United Church of Christ, retiring in 1995.

He was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, Minot, The Minot Ministerial Federation, the Minot Council of Churches, the Mouse River Players, the Salvation Army Advisory Board and was a lifetime member of the Salvation Army. He served as chairman of the District 39 Republican Party, was a member of the Minot Home Rule Charter Commission and the Minot Planning Commission. He served on the Minot City Council as 4th Ward Alderman starting in 1979 after the death of alderman Robert Nelson and did not seek re-election in 1984. He also served on the Trinity Medical Center Board for 12 years. While he served as pastor of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Minot they remodeled the entire church and he was very proud of that.

Survivors: two sons, David Badgley II and his wife, Pat, Wahpeton, ND and James Badgley, Minot; two daughters, Judith Badgley and Susan Knight, both of Minot; eight grandchildren, David P. Badgley III, Jason Edward Badgley, Jessica Lynn and Amanda Leigh Bunnell, Penny Marie and Oswald Frederick Knight, Kaitlyn Marie and Rebekah Loranne Badgley; four great grandchildren, Kelli Marie Knight and Alexis Payge Cristine Knight, Kenneth Cole Funk and Anthony Willard; brothers, Carl Badgley, Ark., Larry and John Badgley both of Chicago, Ill and sister, Jacqueline Jones, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two of his sisters, Judith and Pat.

Memorial Service: Congregational United Church of Christ, Minot on Wednesday, June 11, 2003 at 10 a.m.

Burial: North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND

Visitation: There will be no reviewal, but friends may sign a register book on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the Thompson Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND.
