Jeanette Backes • 1926 - 2003 Jeanette Backes, 76, 305 8th Ave NE, Minot, formerly of Glenburn, ND, died Sunday, March 9, 2003, in a Minot Nursing Home, Minot, ND. Jeanette was born on December 24, 1926 in Lansford, North Dakota, the daughter of John and Elsie Oss. She was reared and educated in Lansford and graduated from Lansford High School. She then attended Minot Business College in Minot. On April 20, 1949 in Glenburn, ND, she married Richard Backes. They made their home on the family farm until 1968 then they moved into Glenburn, until health problems resulted in their becoming residents of the Trinity Homes in Minot. She entered the Trinity Homes in October of 1996. Richard died on October 17, 2000. She was a member of St. Philomena Catholic Church, Glenburn and the Altar Society of the church. Survivors: Sons, Rick and his wife, Melanie, Minot, Scott and His wife, Brenda, Glenburn; daughter, Jackie Emerson, Bellevue, WA; five grandchildren, Sean Emerson, Erica Backes, Ashley Backes, Brandon Backes and Alyssa Backes; brother, Donald Oss and his wife, Sandie, Glasgow, MT and Kenny Oss, Minot. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Swede and a half-sister. Funeral: Friday, March 14, 2003, at 1 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND Visitation: Thursday, March 13, 2003 from 9 a.m .until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND Burial: St. Philomena Catholic Cemetery, Glenburn, ND, in the Spring of 2003.
