Anton W. "Tony" Bachmeier 1932 - 2006

Anton W. "Tony" Bachmeier, 74, 1011 8th St SE, Minot, died Friday, September 15, 2006 in a Minot hospital following a battle with cancer with his loving family at his side.

Anton was born on June 24, 1932, in Orrin, ND the son of Michael and Pauline (Giesinger) Bachmeier. At the age of seven he moved with his family to New Rockford and the Minot area, and was raised and educated in New Rockford. As a young man he worked on various farms in the New Rockford area.

On January 26, 1949, at the age of 17 he entered the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on June 12, 1952.

On August 23, 1952, Anton was united in marriage to Mary Bachmeier at St. Leo's Catholic Church, in Minot. Following their marriage, they made their home in Minot. Tony began his career with the Great Northern Railway later renamed Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad as a carman and derrick engineer where he worked for 44 years until his retirement on May 30, 1994.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and St. Leo's Catholic Church, all of Minot. Tony was also a member of the Williston and Minot Moose Lodges.

Tony enjoyed gardening, camping and fishing and bird watching. He loved fishing with his family at Silver Bridge and Bakers Bridge when his children were younger. One of his greatest pleasures was making homemade deer sausage and good old fashioned head cheese with his side kick, uncle Kasper Linghor (deceased) and with his grandchildren.

Those who shared in his life, Loving wife of 54 years, Mary Bachmeier, Minot; son, Mark (Clarinda) Bachmeier, Norwich; daughters, Debra Bachmeier, at home, and Rebecca Movchan, Minot; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Heath) Kanenwisher, Dustin Movchan and Chris Reuer; three great-grandchildren, Mikayla Kanenwisher and twins, Caden and Hope Kanenwisher; sisters, Ann (Mike) Schafer, Eugene, OR, Regina Raub, Minot, Elizabeth Larson, Minot and Aurelia Moore, Eugene, OR; numerous nieces and nephews; uncle, Dominic (Aurelia) Geisinger, New Rockford; special aunts, Mary West and Caroline Bertsch, both of Minot, and numerous cousins survive.

Tony was preceded in death by his grandson, Shannon Movchan; great-granddaughter, Katelyn Kanenwisher; his parents; brothers, John, Mike and Ben Bachmeier; sisters, Mary Lesmeister, Bernadine Lee and Margaret Bachmeier.

Mass of Christian Burial: Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot

Visitation: Monday, September 18, 2006, from noon until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Vigil Prayer Service: Monday, September 18, 2006 at 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
