John E. Bachmeier 1927 - 2008 John was born August 29, 1927 on the family farm in the Blumenfeld, ND area, the son of Mike and Katherine (Schiele) Bachmeier. He was raised on the family farm and attended school at Lake George School in McHenry County. John worked as a carpenter his entire life and was good at what he did. John met and married Mildred (Cherry) Carlson on October 10, 1964 in Harvey, ND and to this union a son, Steven was born. Following their marriage they lived in various cities in Minnesota, North Dakota and Montana due to John's employment in the construction industry. They later returned to Harvey, ND, where John was injured in a work related accident and was forced to retire. They moved to Surrey and then Minot, where Mildred had daycare in her home for many years. John loved the kids and enjoyed helping when Mildred needed it. They also loved to garden and fish. While living in Roseau, MN, John and Mildred spent many hours on Lake of the Woods fishing. John wasn't the kind to sit still. He enjoyed fixing and tinkering on different projects around the house. Mildred died February 29, 2008. John was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a former member of the Moose Lodge. John volunteered for many years with the RSVP - Retired and Senior Volunteer Program. Those who shared in his life, daughters, Lillie Ann Olson and her companion, Ron Randa, Minot, ND; Bonnie M. (Phillip) Faul, Harvey, ND and Elizabeth "Betty" (Terry) Faul, Minot, ND; 10 grandchildren, Monte Olson, Myrna Laurin, Deborah Keller, Shelia Patzer, Bonny Lynn Faul, Becky Medler, Darla Faul, Stacey Greene, Terry John Faul and Melodi Faul; 18 great-grandchildren, Derek, Veronica and Taylar Barrios, Brittany, Katie Lyn and Maci Laurin, Nickie Pixler, Jennifer and Jorden Keller, Crystal and Lacey Patzer, Nathan, Justin and Darren Medler, Katie and McKenzi Faul, Courtney Greene and Kayla Behnkie; brothers, Casper Bachmeier, Rugby, ND, Leo and Pete Bachmeier, both in Cutbank, MT and Louie Bachmeier, Brady, MT; sisters, Margie DeVoogdt, Devils Lake, ND, Christine Hagen, Conrad, MT, Rose Monroe, Valier, MT and Katie Gilderhus, Vancouver, WA; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive. John was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; son, Steven Bachmeier; his parents, Mike and Katherine; sister, Anna Adams. Funeral: Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot. Visitation and vigil prayer service: Visitation will be Monday, from noon to 7:00 p.m. with the vigil prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.
