Benedict "Ben" Bachmeier 1938 - 2007

Benedict "Ben" Bachmeier, 69, Minot, died Tuesday, December 25, 2007, in him home surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer.

Ben was born on April 21, 1938, in Orrin, ND, the son of Joseph and Helen (Voller) Bachmeier. He attended Rosebush Country School and then later went on to Hansen's Mechanical Trade School in Fargo where he received his diploma in motor repair.

Ben married Alice Volk on November 19, 1960, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Karlsruhe, ND. They lived at the Leach Ranch at Towner for a time where he was employed as a ranch hand and later moved to Minot and worked for Boeing Missile for a few years. In the early 70's he started working for Neshem Peterson Construction as a mechanic. Ben and Alice then owned and operated the B & A Bar in Berthold, ND for 14 years and drove the school bus and mail route. After they sold the bar in 1987, he worked at the Minot Daily News and then in 1993, Ben went to work for GraTech Company, LLC as an oiler through 1998, when he left and went to the farm to help his brother, Adam. Ben retired in April of this year.

Ben's hobbies included gardening; hunting and trapping. He especially enjoyed camping and boating with his kids, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ben was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus both in Minot.

Survivors: wife, Alice, Minot; three daughters, Diane (Patrick) Murphy, Berthold, ND, Sandy Anderson (Trey Skager), Deering, ND and Renee (Linus) Kalenze; Berthold, three sons, Marlin (Connie) Bachmeier, Sacramento, CA, Darren Bachmeier, Berthold and Darwin Bachmeier, Minot; daughter-in-law, Tammy Bachmeier, Bismarck, ND; 21 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Eva Duchscherer, Granville, ND, Magdalena (Eustachius) Duchsherer, Drake, ND, Helen (Ed) Koble, Harvey, ND; brothers, Tony (Pat) Bachmeier, Carrington, ND, Phillip Bachmeier, Powers, MT, Adam Bachmeier, Towner, ND and Joe (Julie) Bachmeier, Towner; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ben was preceded in death by parents, Joseph and Helen Bachmeier, son, Jeffery Bachmeier, granddaughter, BreAnn Bachmeier, brothers, Willie, Matt, Nick and Leo Bachmeier.

Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, December 29, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot.

Visitation: Friday, December 28, 2007, from noon until 5 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot and from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church.

Vigil Prayer Service: Friday, December 28, 2007, at 7 p.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
