Darlyne I. Aufforth, 78, Bowbells, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, August 11, 2009, in the Kenmare Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Darlyne Ione Nygaard was born August 18, 1930, in Columbus, ND to Severin and Alice (Olson) Nygaard. She attended schools in Columbus and graduated from Lignite High School in 1949. She attended Minot State Teacher's College during the summer, where she earned a rural Teaching Certificate. She taught at Lakeside School in Lakeview Township, Burke County, ND, from September of 1949 to May of 1952. While she taught she stayed with the Clair and Rebecca Olney family.

She worked at Divide County Abstract Company and Andy's Men Store in Crosby, and as a bookkeeper at the Farmers Union Oil Company in Flaxton.

On April 17, 1954 she was married to Paul F. Aufforth at United Lutheran Church in Flaxton. They had three children, Jeanine, Kent and Kurt. Darlyne and Paul farmed from 1954 to 2002 near Bowbells.

Darlyne loved to read and instilled a love of books in her children and grandchildren. Family was very important to her, and she loved visits from all of her family. Darlyne was very proud of her grandchildren and they brought her much happiness. She was delighted with the addition of the "greats" to the family. While her children were growing up she was a 4-H leader, Cub Scout leader, Sunday school and Bible school teacher. She was a life-long teacher, always planning activities for her kids and grand-kids. Darlyne enjoyed quilting and baking. She was a wonderful cook, and there were always fresh baked goods at her home. No one ever left her house hungry. She was a member of United Methodist Church , Bowbells, a 50 plus year member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of Walster's Homemakers Club.

Those who shared in her life, husband of 55 years, Paul, Bowbells; daughter, Jeanine Jensen, Bowbells; sons, Kent (Shelly) Aufforth, Bowbells, and Kurt (Janine) Aufforth, Cando; four grandchildren, Tanner and Erica Aufforth of Cando, Anthony (Leah) Stoner, Fargo, ND, and Chris Stoner (Clarence Cole), Grand Forks, ND; two great-grandchildren, Isaac and Finn Stoner; sisters, Sylvia (Richard) Swennes, Kenmare, and Wanyce (Rueben) Arndt, Garrison; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Darlyne was preceded in death by her parents, Severin and Alice Nygaard; brothers and their wives, Duane (Helen) Nygaard and Verlin (Joan) Nygaard.

Funeral: Saturday, August 15, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at United Methodist Church, Bowbells, ND.

Visitation: Saturday, one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial: Bowbells Cemetery, Bowbells, ND.

Memorials are preferred to an organization of the donor's choice.
