Donovan O. Arnold 1936 - 2003 Donovan O. Arnold, 66, Carpio, ND, died Saturday, August 16, 2003 in his home. He was born on November 23, 1936, on the family farm southeast of Carpio, one of two sons to Oscar and Christel (Stoa) Arnold. He was raised and educated in Carpio and graduated from Carpio High School in 1954. He attended North Dakota State University, and later entered the United States Army. He was honorably discharged from the Army, but remained active with the Army Reserve for eight years. He returned to North Dakota, and married Marjorie Haaland in Carpio on November 23, 1958. They took over the family farming operation in 1960, where they lived and farmed near Carpio his entire life. Donovan took great pride in the production and raising of small grains and livestock, and worked with his wife in their endeavor for over 44 years. In 1991, Donovan was honored at the NDSU Harvest Bowl as one of North Dakota's outstanding agriculturists, an honor he treasured. Donovan's greatest love was spending time with his family, be it at a music concert or sporting event with his grandkids, family get-together, or special holiday dinners, this was where he wanted to be. He was an ever-ready neighbor, always offering help or assistance to others if they needed an extra hand, use of machinery, or an ear to vent on. His daily meetings at the kitchen table with fellow farmers were an integral part of his farming operation. He was a member of Carpio Lutheran Church and served on several church committees. He also was a member of the Donnybrook American Legion Clarence McCormack Post #195. He served as director for Souris River Telephone Board for 20 years, and was chairman from 1985 - 1991.
