Clarence "Pete" Arnold 1922 - 2002

Clarence "Pete" Arnold, 80, 513 12th St. NW, Minot, died Tuesday at his home.

He was born March 18, 1922, in Eden Valley, MN, to Peter and Elizabeth Arnold. He was reared and educated in Eden Valley. On October 1, 1942, he entered the United States Navy and served on the USS St. Louis during World War II. He was honorably discharged on November 7, 1945. Pete moved to Minot where he worked for the Minot Fire Department for a short time before he started working at the American Legion. On August 2, 1974, he married Phyllis (Schneider) Richter, in Mohall. They lived in Minot, where Pete managed the American Legion for 20 years, retiring in 1980. He later worked at the Chances R Bar and the Labor Temple.

He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, both of Minot. He was also a member of the Elks BPOE, Eagles Aerie and the Moose Lodge, all of Minot. Pete enjoyed playing pinochle and fishing.

Survivors: Wife, Phyllis, Minot; daughters, Jennifer Strauss and husband John, Camden, AR, Marsha Baskin, Las Vegas, NV and Nancy Tepler, Minot; six grandchildren, Brent Kabanuk, Heidi Olson, Suzanne LaSpina, Christine Sullivan, Brian Tepler and Kerri Tepler; three great-grandchildren, Alayna Kabanuk, Bianca LaSpina and Kyle Kabanuk; brother, Ralph Arnold and wife Irene, St. Cloud, MN; sisters, Jane Sand and husband Greg, Granite City, IL and Betty Lahr and husband Vernon, St. Paul, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Elizabeth Arnold.

Funeral service: Friday, August 23, 2002 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot.

Visitation will be on Thursday, August 22, 2002, from noon until 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, with a prayer vigil at the funeral home at 7:00 p.m.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
