Russell W. Anderson 1931 - 2006


Russell W. Anderson, 74, Minot, ND, went home to be with his Lord on May 3, 2006 at Manorcare Health Services. Russ fought a courageous battle for over 7 1/2 months from complications following cancer surgery.

Russell William Anderson was born September 22, 1931, in Burke County, Diamond Township at the home of his parents, the late Louis Edwin and Elna (Lundgren) Anderson. He attended school in Kenmare, ND and graduated in 1949. He attended college at Bethel College in St. Paul, MN and the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. He graduated from UND in 1954 with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Commerce with a major in accounting.

He served in the Army from 1954 to 1956, working in communication with the Signal Corps, and was stationed in Germany. After his return to ND, he began working for Janz, Iverson and Martz, presently Brady, Martz & Associates. He was a shareholder in the firm until his retirement in 1987.

On July 14, 1957 he married Vernetta Duerre, also a Kenmare native. They continued to make their home in Minot and had three children, sons, Michael and Steven, and daughter Nancy.

He was active in the ND Society of CPA's, serving as its President during the 1972-1973 fiscal year. On September 20, 1988 he was named as a Life Member of the Society. He was also active in the Sertoma Club of Minot, serving as treasurer for many years. He was named Sertoman of the Year in for 1981 and 1985, and was given the Service to Mankind award by the Sertoma Club in 1987. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and served as its treasurer for many years. He was also active on the Board of Directors for Minot Youth for Christ and the Board of Directors of Camp Bentley.

Hobbies included building and flying model airplanes; he was a past member of Minot Aero Modelers. He also enjoyed camping and boating with family and friends.

Survivors: Wife, Vernetta Anderson, Minot; sons, Michael (Diana) Anderson, Las Vegas, NV, Steven Anderson, Minot; daughter, Nancy (Paul) Hettwer, Grand Forks, ND; five grandchildren, Wesley and Calvin Anderson, and Miranda, Jordan and Brandon Hettwer; brother, Roland Anderson, Peoria, AZ; brother-in-law, Gene Duerre, Kenmare; nephew, Jeff Duerre, Kenmare; one aunt and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Louis LeRoy Anderson, and sister-in-law Barbara Duerre.

Funeral: Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church, Minot, ND.

Visitation: Monday, May 8, 2006, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.
