Mary E. Anderson 1924 - 2002 Mary E. Anderson, 78, 901 11 Ave SE, Minot, died Wednesday at her home. Mary was born March 21, 1924, to Edward and Nellie Henjum in Minot. She attended and graduated from St. Leo's School in 1942. Following graduation, she worked in Washington, D.C. for Bell Telephone Company as a long distance operator. She soon returned to North Dakota and taught in rural schools in the Powers Lake area. In March of 1946, she married Howard Anderson. They lived on his parent's ranch near Powers Lake where they farmed and raised cattle. Her husband died in a truck accident in 1948. She returned to Minot with her two sons. She attended Minot State University where she received a Standard Teaching Certificate. She taught in Martin, Des Lacs, Bisbee, Crosby and Roosevelt School in Minot. While teaching in Minot, she attended Valley City State and graduated in a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in 1969. She taught for 28 years in Minot and retired in 1987. She was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot and was active in the Catholic Daughters. She was also a member of the North Dakota Retired Teachers Association and the St. Joseph's Auxiliary. Survivors: sons, Howard "Bucky" Anderson and wife Linda, 2200 62nd St. SW, Minot; Mike Anderson and wife Sandy, San Antonio, TX; six grandchildren, Stacie (Wes) Beck, Portal, Lisa Anderson and special friend, Doug Mickelson, Fargo, Ellie (Mark) Nickel, Grand Forks, Brett (Stacy) Anderson, Bismarck; Clay Anderson, Grand Forks and Seth Anderson, San Antonio, TX; great-grandson, Gage Anderson, Bismarck; sisters, Marjorie (Ward) Nostdahl and Theresa Zahn, all of Minot; brother-in-law, John Selzler, Velva; sister-in-law, Marian Koll, Burlington and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Harold, Joseph, John, Edward and William "Bill" Henjum; sisters, Dorothy Behm, Verna Charlebois, Clare Newman and Pat Selzler. Funeral: Saturday, 11:00 a.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot. Visitation: Friday from noon until 7:00 p.m. with rosary recitation at 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home.
