Lucille Anderson 1907 - 2002

Lucille Anderson, 94, Shoreline, WA, formerly of Velva, died Saturday, May 11, 2002, at the Anderson House foster care home.

She was born September 6, 1907, in St. Paul, MN, the daughter of P.W. and Anna (Strifert) Miller. She attended Junior High School in Grand Forks, two years at Velva High School and two years in Minneapolis where she graduated in 1928. She attended the University of North Dakota for two years and was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. She later transferred to the University of Minnesota and graduated in 1930 with a Bachelors of Science Degree. After graduation she moved to Brookings, SD, where she taught physical education at Brookings State College.

She was once married to Harry Anderson. In 1945, Lucille moved to Houston, TX, with her children where she lived with her brother, Don and her aunt Pearl. She taught public school from 1945 to 1973 in Houston. She received her Masters Degree in 1949 from the University of Houston and was in the honor society of Phi Beta Kappa.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Velva, Chapel Wood Methodist Church, Houston where she was very active with the Sunday School and she was also a member of the Harris County Girl Scouts from 1952 to 1958. Lucille was also very active in the National Quilters Guild of Houston and she loved to travel.

Survivors: son, Robert Anderson and his wife Diana, Winterville, NC; daughter, Mary Lou Knappe and her husband Ed, Seattle WA; grandchildren, William Anderson and his wife Cynthia, Gretchen Knappe, Heather Knappe, and Garrett Knappe; step grandchildren, Nicole, Christopher, David, Michael, and Suzanne Bellamy; sister, Meredith Fowler, Grand Forks, ND. Her parents and her brother, Don Miller, preceded her in death.

Funeral Service: Saturday, May 18, 2002, at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Velva.

Visitation: Friday, May 17, 2002, from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Velva.

Burial: Velva Community Cemetery, Velva.
