Johanna "Joanne"
Andersen 1916 - 2002 Johanna Axelina "Joanne" Andersen, 86, 8650 Hwy 50, Powers Lake, ND, passed into the arms of our lord surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, May 21, 2002, in a Minot hospital. She was born March 3, 1916, on a farm by Torquay Saskatchewan Canada the daughter of Hans and Astrid (Vinge) Grimsrud. She grew up and attended school in Torquay. She also attended hairdressing school and worked in various places in Canada. She was an aide in a nursing home in Canada and later immigrated to the United States. She met her future husband Roy at a dance in Battleview. They were married November 1946 in Torquay Canada and made their home at Doc Goodman's ranch north of Battleview. They later moved to their farm east of Powers Lake. They spent many years custom combining, going south to Kansas and working their way back home. Roy was killed in a truck/train accident September 1971. Joanne moved to Powers Lake in the summer of 1975, and began work for Green Thumb at the Senior Citizens Center in Powers Lake from 1977 until she retired in 1993. She moved to Tioga Long Term Care in June of 2001 and lived there until her death. Her family and friends will dearly miss her. Joanne was known for her "lighter than air" buns, fresh lefse, baked beans and never allowing anyone to leave her house without eating. While on the farm a big white pot was full of egg coffee and always on for her friends and neighbors. She spoiled her grandchildren and great granddaughter. She kept them all supplied with hats, gloves, and t-shirts. She crocheted Afghans and did ceramics for many years. She had a generous spirit and often went to homes to cook and assist those in need. She was devoted to her family and no one ever left her home empty handed. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, the Holy Cross ladies aide and quilted with the ladies aid on Wednesday. Survivors: daughter, Claudia Fredrickson and her husband Terry, Powers Lake, their sons, Jamey, Nick and his wife Teddi and Scott; son, Richard Andersen and his wife Susan, Powers Lake; their son, Travis and daughter, Jessica and her daughter Tana; brothers, Gerhard, Adolph, Torquay; sisters, Calla Bod, Estevan, and Evelyn Pearson, Weyburn, Canada, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her husband, her parents, and her sister, Mildred Van Berkom, preceded her in death. Funeral Service: Saturday, May 25, 2002, at 3 p.m.
