Maxine Ames, 85, Minot, ND, passed away Saturday, November 22, 2008, at Trinity Homes, Minot.

Maxine L. Axtell was born February 2, 1923, a daughter of Lloyd and Lyla (Larson) Axtell, in Medina, ND. She was raised and educated in Medina and graduated from Medina High School. She then attended Valley City State Teachers College where she received her Standard Teaching Certificate. She began her teaching career by teaching at country schools in Medina, Clementsville, and Bloom, ND.

Maxine married Eldred L. Ames September 24, 1948, in Jamestown, ND. They made their home on a farm near Wimbeldon, ND. They later resided in Jamestown, and Woodworth, ND, before moving to Minot in June of 1967. Maxine was the bookkeeper for their family business, Ruthville Conoco, for 30 years.

She was an active member of Vincent United Methodist Church, Minot, and served on several of the church's committees.

She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crafting, and cake decorating. She also enjoyed time on family vacations and taking care of her grandchildren.

Her loving family includes: husband of 60 years, Eldred, Minot; daughters, Barbara (Russell) Emery, Jeanette (Dan) Gravseth, and Rhonda (Randy) Nelson, all of Bismarck; son, Doug Ames (Carrie McLaughlin) of Minot; 12 grandchildren, one great-grandson, sister, Marion Mathern, Salem, OR; and many nieces and nephews.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Leona; and brother, Harold.

Funeral: Tuesday, November 25, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at Vincent United Methodist Church, Minot.

Interment: Tuesday at 3 pm at Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, ND.

Visitation: Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

In lieu of flowers, Maxine's family suggests memorial contributions be made to Vincent United Methodist Church Women, or to the Alzheimer's Association.
