Leland M. Alexander 1915 - 2004

Leland M. Alexander, 89, life-long Tolley, ND area farmer and rancher died Monday, March 29, 2004, in a Minot medical center.

Leland was born February 24, 1915, at Tolley, ND, the son of Duncan and Ethel (Pulver) Alexander. He was raised and educated in that area, attending country school and then Tolley High School, where he graduated in 1931. Following graduation, Leland enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked at Fort Lincoln, near Bismarck and also at the Kenmare camp. Following his discharge from the CCC's he went to California for a short time to work in the orchards.

He returned to Tolley, ND to help on the family farm during the depression. On May 12, 1940, he married Eldora Ones in Minot, ND. They lived on the farm until 1948, when they moved into Tolley. Leland and Eldora farmed and ranched their entire lives on the family farm east of Tolley. Leland remained active in the farming operation until 1999, but continued to make his daily trips to the farm. He had just recently moved to Edgewood Vista in Minot, where he lived until his death.

Leland was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Tolley. He also served on the McKinney Cemetery Board and the Tolley School Board for a number of years. Leland enjoyed his special times with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors: Wife, Eldora "Tudy" Alexander, Tolley; children, Paul M. and Terry Alexander, Tolley, Donna I. (Ron) Hansen, Minot, and Larry L. (Mary Lou) Alexander, Tolley; seven grandchildren, Jana (Jim) Hill, Heidi (Jack) Scudmore, Scott (Joyce) Hansen, Tim Hansen, Rochelle Hager, Tom (Jerilyn) Alexander and Margy (Ross) Hanson; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Bonnie Randles, Spokane, WA; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Leland was preceded in death by his parents, Duncan and Ethel; brother, Lyall Alexander; sisters, Fern Whitt, Margaret Bennett, Lucille Smith, Independence Alexander, Edith Alexander, and one infant sister.

Funeral: Thursday, April 1, 2004, at 11:00 a.m., at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Tolley, ND.

Visitation: Wednesday, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, KENMARE, ND, and Thursday, from 9:00 to service time at the church in Tolley.

Burial: McKinney Cemetery, Tolley, ND.
