Gerald E. "Jerry"
Albrecht 1932 - 2006 Jerry was born August 1, 1932, in Garrison, N.D., the son of George and Rose (Bauer) Albrecht. He graduated from Garrison High School in 1950. He continued his education at Valparaiso University in Indiana, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in June of 1954. For a few years, he taught school on the secondary level in North Eastern Indiana and North Dakota. In 1960, Jerry continued his education at Georgia State University and graduated January 1962, with a degree in Hospital Administration. He served his residency at Donald N. Sharp Memorial Community Hospital in San Diego, CA. He was then appointed assistant administrator of The Queens Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii, and remained there until 1964, at which time he accepted an administrative position at Lutheran Deaconess Hospital in Harvey, Illinois. In 1965, he organized a new nursing home named Bethany Terrace at Maiton Grove, Illinois, and from there he was hired to start and supervise the entire building program for the Lutheran Home for the aged at Frankenmuth, Michigan, which evolved over a period of three years. In 1970, Jerry accepted a managerial position at the Ramona Convalescent Hospital in Hemet, California, and in 1972, became administrator of Colonial Convalescent Hospital in San Jacinto, California, until 1976. At that time, he became Hospital Administrator for the County of San Diego and remained there until his retirement in December of 1988. He was a past member of the American Hospital Association and the San Diego County Employees Retirement Association. Jerry returned to Garrison, N.D. in 1995, to oversee the care of his mother. In later months of 1999, he moved to Roswell, New Mexico, and in 2003, moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. Prior to leaving Garrison in 1999, Jerry was instrumental in starting the Garrison City Cemetery Beautification Project which was completed in 2000. He is survived by his brother, William "Bill" and sister in law, Johnnie, Roswell, New Mexico; sister, Geraldine Allen, Fargo, North Dakota; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father and mother. In accordance with Jerry's wishes there will be no funeral or memorial service and his final resting place will be next to his parents at the Garrison City Cemetery in Garrison, N.D.
