Adeline Ackerman Sorby 1926 - 2011

Adeline Ackerman Sorby PhotoAdeline Ackerman Sorby, 85, formerly of Kenmare, ND, died Saturday, December 17, 2011 in her home.  She demonstrated great strength, courage, and dignity in her passing, as she did throughout her life.

Adeline Christine Mortensen was born January 7, 1926, near Powers Lake, ND, to William and Gladys (Waltenburg) Mortensen.  She attended country school near Powers Lake until the age of nine, when her parents moved to a farm near Kenmare.  Adeline graduated from Kenmare High School and then attended Minot State Teacher's College, where she earned her Elementary Teaching Certificate.  She taught in rural schools in Burke and Ward Counties until her marriage to Maurice Ackerman.  To this union three children were born.  Adeline did secretarial work for her husband as well as raising their family and doing seamstress work in her home.  Maurice passed away in 1979.

She continued to live in Kenmare and kept busy doing seamstress work.  She
married Willard Olsen in 1981.  They attended many threshing shows together, where their motorhome was always the gathering place for meals and baked goods.  Noone ever left hungry.  Willard passed away in 1991.

Adeline was always busy doing something.  She would often say she wanted everything done "yesterday".  In her spare time, she enjoyed craft work, cooking, baking, her flowers, gardening, music, and walking on her treadmill.  She also loved to dance.  It was while dancing at the Moose, that she met and later married Selmer Sorby in 2001.  They lived in Kenmare until 2003 when they moved to Minot.  Selmer passed away in 2005.

Adeline was a devoted Christian.  She always looked out for others before herself.  Her unselfishness and strong character were inspirational.  Throughout her life, she could always find good in everything.

Adeline's legacy was one of love, kindness, and compassion.  She dearly loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and cherished the time she spent with them.  She truly was a wonderful lady and will be deeply missed by all those whose lives she touched.
