Wayne Aamot, 88, Minot, ND, formerly of Makoti, died Tuesday, October 30, 2007, in his home.

Wayne was born on July 16, 1919, in Makoti, ND, the son of Elvin and Othelia (Thompson) Aamot. He was raised on the family farm 2 ¼ miles NE of Makoti. He graduated from Makoti High School in 1937, where he was active in music and basketball. He attended Minot Business College and started working at Tollefson's Furniture Company as a bookkeeper. Wayne was then employed at the Minot Sears Roebuck and Company as a salesman.

Wayne entered the United States Army on April 14, 1942. He served in the South Pacific Theatre, New Guinea, Australia and the Philippines as a surgical tech in charge of the dispensary on Army transports and assisting in operations in sick call duties. He was honorably discharged on December 14, 1945, receiving the Good Conduct Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the American Theater Service Medal, The Philippine Liberation Medal with two Bronze Stars and the Victory Medal. After his discharge Wayne returned to the family farm and married Ethel Thorsdahl on February 22, 1948, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot. They operated a grain, dairy and beef farm until retiring in 1989, when they moved into Minot.

Wayne was active in Makoti as clerk of the school board, a faithful member and treasurer of Hope Lutheran Church, the Thresher's association, was an EMT with the ambulance, and was a 62 year member of the William Hanson American Legion Post # 230. He was a proud member of the Democratic Party, Scandinavian Heritage Center Society, the Sons of Norway Thor Lodge, Elks Lodge and the Golden Kiwanis all of Minot. He was a former member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot.

Survivors: wife of 59 years, Ethel, Minot; daughter, Kathy (Rev. Dan) Paulson, Powers Lake; sons, Michael (Deb) Aamot, Makoti, and David (Brenda) Aamot, Parshall; grandchildren: Nathan (Ann) Johansen, Ryan (Fiancée Janelle) Aamot, Jon (Patty) Aamot, Joseph (Natalie) Paulson, Andrea (Erik) Haser, Sarah (Steve) Kovacik, Tori Aamot,, one great grandchild, Gunnar Johansen. Siblings, Orvin (Ethel) Aamot, Minot, Marlys (Art) Kohlhase, Warren, MN, Marian Heck, Cottage Grove, MN. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Randall and Karl.

Funeral Service: Saturday, November 3, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church, Makoti.

Visitation: Friday, November 2, 2007, from Noon until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Burial: Hope Lutheran Cemetery, Makoti.
