Nels Aaenson PhotoNels Aaenson, 89, passed away peacefully at his home in Winthrop, WA, on May 2, 2010.

Nels C. Aaenson was born April 21, 1921, in Geneseo, North Dakota, the son of Elmer and Selma (Martinson) Aaenson. He was raised and educated in the Granville area. He graduated from Granville High School.

Nels married Arlene Kingsley on October 19, 1945, Glenburn, ND. They made their home in the Granville area, then in Minot and in Watford City before moving to Kenmore, Washington, to assist their family due to a death in the family in 1960.  After he retired from the Ford Motor Company in 1979, Nels and Arlene continued to reside in Washington and traveled throughout the United States.

Nels was a “do-it” man who could fix anything and do anything. He was everyone’s mechanic. Among other things, he enjoyed carpentry, camping and traveling.  He was a wonderful father and loving husband.  He loved children, and he and Arlene cared for several foster children.  He was a true giver, always helping people.

Nels is survived by his loving wife, Arlene, with whom he shared 64 wonderful years; his son, Robert (Carla) Aaenson, Arlington, WA; grandsons, Aaron Aaenson, Mt. Vernon, WA, and Joel (Wendy) Aaenson, Marysville, WA; three great grandchildren, Adina, Justus and Rhyder Aaenson; sister, Annie Kingsley, Minot, ND; brother, Ed (Dorie) Aaenson, of Lake Havasu, AZ; sisters-in-law, Jean (Harry) Rollman, Minot, Vada Kingsley, Bismarck, and Darlene Swallers, Granville. and numerous nieces and nephews.

Nels was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Selma Aaenson; brothers, Arnold, Harry, Norman, and Marvin Aaenson; and sisters, Sena Sartwell, Milly Bergstad, Carol Harger, and Delores Hanson.

Memorial Service: Saturday, June 26, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Granville.

Interment:
  Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot, ND, Saturday at 2:00 pm.

Visitation: 
Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.
