Eve Richwalski, 91, Kenmare, ND, died Monday, June 23, 2003,
at the Kenmare Nursing Home, where she had lived since October,
1998.
Evinda Marie Gunderson was born January 8, 1912 in Bentru Township
of Grand Forks County, ND, the daughter of H. Andrew and Gunvor
"Gertrude" (Tofslie) Gunderson. Her mother died when
Eve was 6 years old and she was taken in by foster parents, Ole
and Mina (Paulson) Koppang, Climax, MN. In 1922, at the age of
10, Eve was adopted by her foster parents and became Evinda Marie
Koppang.
Eve attended the rural school in Tynsid Township and then attended
the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, MN. On June
21, 1947 she married Waino Wirkkanen, and they lived in the twin
cities area. Waino died December 8, 1967 in Minneapolis. On May
15, 1976, she married Elmer M. Richwalski and moved to Kenmare.
Eve's happiest years were those she spent with Elmer fishing,
baking, canning, traveling and visiting with friends and family.
Loving survivors include her husband Elmer, Minot, ND; a nephew,
David Gunderson; four nieces, Shirley (Terry) Vonasek, Donna
Williams, Gail (Beckman) Erickson, and Jeanne (Beckman) McGuire;
two great nephews, Tyler and Kyle Vonasek; two great nieces,
Dawn Williams and Lori Nickelson; a great-great niece and nephew,
Samantha and Brandon Nickelson; sisters-in-law, Mildred Gunderson
and Helen (Richwalski) Beckman; and brother-in-law, Walter Richwalski.
Eve was preceded in death by her birth and adoptive parents,
three brothers, George, Gordon, and Herman, and an infant nephew.
Burial is in Sand Hill Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Climax,
MN.
