Dorothy "Pinky" Haines 1920 - 2010 Dorothy Webster was born January 20, 1920, a daughter of Leon and Bertha (Hansen) Webster in Bismarck, ND. Dorothy married Oscar Malnaa from Crosby where their two children were born. They later divorced. In 1952 Dorothy married Elwin (Tuffy) Haines in Granville. They made their home in Deering until Tuffy’s death March 4, 1984. Pinky was very active in the Deering community. She was a member of the Deering Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid, Deering Army Mother’s Post, Clerk for the Deering Water System Collection; in all school functions as well as helping Tuffy do the janitorial work at the Deering School. They began their gardening and farmers market work after retirement and they made many friends that she made her special jams and jellies and delicious baked goods for. She retired from the market in 1998. Family members treasure the many flannel quilts, “Pinky becoes”, she made for them for birthdays, weddings, and the birth of babies. She did beautiful embroidery and won several Grand Champion ribbons at the ND State Fair. Before Pinky’s vision failed she was an avid reader and a serious card player. Pinky made very tasty lefse, which people loved to order for special occasions. Part of being a loving mother and grandmother of three generations was to teach all the children how to make lefse and cookies. Time spent with family at their gatherings was very enjoyable for her and her 90th birthday celebration was a highlight. Pinky became an active member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, Minot, when she moved to Minot and lived at the Milton Young Towers in 1984.
