Mary Ann Brosnahan 1926 - 2005

Mary Ann Brosnahan, longtime resident of Minot and member of one of its earliest familes, died Thursday, September 8, 2005, in Trinity Homes, Minot.

She was born in Minot on April 8, 1926, the daughter of Henry J. and Catherine (Ehr) Brosnahan. She was raised and educated in Minot until age 13, when she moved with her family to Eau Claire, Wis. She graduated from St. Patrick's High School in Eau Claire in 1944. She then attended the College of Saint Teresa in Winona, Minn, graduating in 1948 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in chemistry. After graduation, she worked as a research chemist for Red Star Yeast in Milwaukee and Centennial Flour Mills in Spokane, Wash.

Mary returned to Minot in 1952. She worked as a bookkeeper and dental assistant before returning to school. She attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, graduating as a registered dental hygienist. She returned to Minot and for some years, beginning in 1969, was in practice as a dental hygienist. She later was employed by the Minot Catholic Schools as the foundation director.

She made her home in the Ehr-Brosnahan family home on Valley Street in Minot, the third generation to do so. The house was built by her grandfather, John Ehr, in 1904. She lived there with her mother, Catherine, until her death in 1984. Mary remained there, wanting to retain the historical house through its 100th year.

She was a longtime member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot, the Minot Symphony League and the Minot Art Association. She was a former member of the Board of Regents of Minot State University and of the Advisory Board of St. Joseph's Hospital. She was president of the Minot Area Council of the Arts from 1976-1981. She was a past president of the North Dakota Dental Hygiene Association and had been a member of the Minot Quota Club.

Surviving family includes: sisters, Elizabeth Brosnahan-Broome, Claremont, Calif, and Catherine J. "Sue" Martin, Chelsea, Mich.; brother, John M. Brosnahan, Atlantic, Iowa; niece, Barbara (Col.William) Kunzweiler; nephew, Michael P. (Ellen) Brosnahan.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Catherine Brosnahan; brothers-in-law, Donald A. Broome and Raymond Martin; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Brosnahan.

Mass of Christian Burial: Wednesday, September 14, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot.

Private Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.

Visitation: Tuesday from 2 until 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Vigil Prayer Service: Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials are preferred.
